Dance Department
Ballet Program

One of our main missions is to instill the importance of technique,
which is why we follow the Paris Opera Ballet syllabus, the original
ballet teaching method dating back to the 1600s.
Our ballet instructors consist of Mr. Kirk Sprinkles (School
Director), Carrie Strunsky (former High Point City Ballet company
dancer), and Laura Noblin (intern for Houston Ballet & Goffrey
Ballet).
All students are placed by the School Director. Assessments will be
made during the first week of classes. Students may be moved
depending on their level, not age or years of experience.
Pre-Pointe and Pointe class is a level placement class only.

First STEPS Program

Our Pre-Ballet syllabus is designed and under the tutelage of
world renowned youth ballet master, Miss Mary Carpenter. Mary is
NYC's #1 youth ballet program director for such prestigious
schools as: Broadway Dance Center, STEPS on Broadway, Ballet
Hispanico, etc. Mary has over 12 instructional Dvds and Cds
published through Roper Records and is assistant to Ballet
legend, David Howard.
We accept children into our Pre-Ballet program at the age of three.
A child must be three years of age by August 1st. If we feel that
your child is not ready for dance instruction, we kindly ask that you
respect our positions as educators and appreciate our honesty
and commitment to proper education.

Jazz Classes

BDA's Jazz classes encompasses a variety of styles and
techniques. Many consider Jazz to be a fast paced version of
ballet, which is truly a misconception. First of all, there is such
thing as Classical Jazz, even though the origin of Jazz dancing is
the same as the music, deriving from Africa.
Jazz movement is primarily very sharp, angular, and parallel,
opposite of Ballet. However, a dancer's true technique comes from
ballet, which is why it is mandatory that all students enrolled in a
Jazz class at BDA also be enrolled in a ballet class.
Various styles of Jazz taught by School Director, Mr. Kirk Sprinkles:
Classical Jazz, Contemporary Jazz or Jazz "Funk", Musical Theatre
Dance (in the styles of Fosse, Jerome Robbins, Jack Cole, Michael
Bennett, etc.), and Lyrical Jazz.

Tap Classes

The tap classes at BDA is a culmination of rhythm, hoofing, and
the more traditional style aka Broadway Tap. Tap is another dance
form brought from Africa, with its unique syncopated beats and
accents.
At BDA we introduce tap in our second year Pre-Ballet classes, but
only at an introductory level, along with acrobatics. Tap is officially
added as a class technique starting at Level I.

Modern Class

Mr. Sprinkles offers one modern class (Horton based) on
Saturdays. Horton is a technique designed to strengthen the core
and increase flexibility. It also helps ground dancers by forcing the
plie through precise exercises and choreography.
Horton is the basis of the famous Alvin Ailey American Dance
Theatre in NYC. "A feel-good expressive dance style!"

Ballroom Classes & Private Lessons
